MHREC held its Culture Connect event between the 23rd and 30th June 2023. Friends, family and public were invited to support MHREC by participating in a cultural activity to remind everyone just how important the right to to take part or participate in cultural life truly is.
With this in mind, during that week we shared information on Human Rights and culture to showcase their importance!
Thank you all for your support during the Culture Connect week. We were very happy to connect with members as well as new and old friends! Your support enables MHREC to continue carrying out its operations within the community.
In an effort to share practical examples of culture within a local setting, check out some of the pictures that participants shared along with a short paragraph on how the sites and activities contributes to culture and human rights.
St. John’s Co-Cathedral was built by the Order of the Knights of St John was completed in 1577, soon after the Great Siege. Places of worship play a vital role in preserving and promoting cultural heritage. They provide a sense of identity, belonging, and continuity for communities, fostering cultural expression and the transmission of traditions across generations. They often house architectural and artistic treasures which are essential components of a community’s cultural heritage.


Mediterrane Film Festival’s Masterclass: Acting for Film and TV. Films are a form of visual storytelling and are of cultural significance as contribute to the enjoyment and exercise of cultural rights. Films serve as powerful mediums for the expression, exploration, and preservation of diverse traditions and cultures.
The Wignacourt Collegiate Museum in Rabat was formerly the baroque residence of the Chaplains of the Knights of St. John. Museums hold a significant place in society, not only as repositories of cultural heritage but serve as powerful platforms for educating, advocating, and preserving the history, stories, and struggles of diverse communities.
