MHREC is holding a free activity with lunch to introduce Bibliotherapy into Human Rights Education, focusing on themes of active citizenship and democracy. The activity is for up to 20 participants aged 16 – 35 years old.
Participants will be explore underlying social issues and biases through journalling and interactive group activities. Following individualand group discussions on Amnesty International’s ‘Here I Stand’ texts, participants will partake in a Blackout Poetry session and create collages to express social and human rights concerns, fostering self-expression and civic engagement.
Participants of this activity will also have the opportunity to be involved in a linked activity; Bridging our Community β Online Exhibition. Following the blackout poetry activity, an online exhibition through a social media campaign will be created to share the outcomes and highlight the power of individual voices in shaping collective understanding as well provide a platform for community dialogue.

This activity is being organised for the European Youth Week (EYW2024) and funded by the European Commission. This is a biennial event by the European Commission promoting youth engagement and active citizenship across Europe. It raises awareness of youth involvement in decision-making, fosters dialogue between young people and policymakers, and showcases the talents and projects of young Europeans.
