The exhibition ‘Bridging our Community’ aims to foster civic engagement and critical thinking beyond the participants by sharing their pieces that reflect societal issues through the medium of poetry. Readers and social media users are prompted to explore their own perspectives and express themselves in writing or their own pieces through call for action.

With Bridging our Community, MHREC are looking to raise further awareness about human rights issues and democratic principles through engagement.
It is a tool to foster discussions among participants and social community about the themes and messages conveyed in their blackout poetry creations. In turn this means that it can strengthen community by sharing participants’ blackout poetry creations on social media platforms, fostering a sense of solidarity and support for democratic values and activism.
After it’s Building Bridges session on 13th April 2024, MHREC sought to empower participants once more as agents of change by showcasing their poetry within the community. It is also an opportunity to amplify the voices of participants and advocate for human rights and democratic principles through the dissemination of their blackout poetry across various online channels.
This digital exhibition is being organised for the European Youth Week (EYW2024) and funded by the European Commission. This is a biennial event by the European Commission promoting youth engagement and active citizenship across Europe. It raises awareness of youth involvement in decision-making, fosters dialogue between young people and policymakers, and showcases the talents and projects of young Europeans.
