What is Blackout Poetry? This is the name of any type of poem that is created by blacking out any unwanted words from a paragraph of text, poster, book, sign, pamphlet etc. using any ink or colouring tools you have available. Anything that has words can be turned into a blackout poem.
The idea behind black out poetry is choosing words that resonate with the artist’s vision to create a new piece. It is an effective tool for sharing thoughts and ideas in an innovative way; by creating new meanings from old newspapers and other text.
MHREC will be utilising black out poetry in its upcoming session Building Bridges Incorporating Bibliotherapy to Human Rights Education, focusing on themes of active citizenship and democracy.
