Earlier in the year, MHREC volunteers Rachel, Laura and Greta had the opportunity to to participate in the Model International Criminal Court (MICC), which took place in Malta in October over the span of a week. Here is what Laura had to say about her experience:
Participating in the MICC as part of the defence team for my assigned case was an enjoyable experience that broadened my perspective on legal proceedings and human rights discussions through different educational sessions.
Our diverse cultural backgrounds ignited interesting discussions on the nuances of human rights and examination of evidence within the court cases. It enriched our conversations and amplified the depth of our approach when constructing our defence strategies.
Furthermore, the blend between fun social interactions and legal engagements created a holistic experience which allowed us to collaborate more effectively and grow stronger bonds between each other.
Finally, the court simulation itself was the highlight of the week. It was fascinating to defend our position and engage in arguments against the opposing team. The dynamic nature of the simulation pushed me to interpret and argue impromptu.
