Over the months of July through to September, here at MHREC we held interactive and educational sessions at Ronald McDonald House Charities.
These sessions were an opportunity to work with youth and disseminate more information on human rights and discrimination. Our first sessions were non formal learning activities to learn more about human rights, their history as well as application to current affairs within the local context.
At MHREC, we made use of the Stories that Move toolbox against discrimination. This is a free online tool for teaching about diversity and discrimination, guided by young people’s real stories and experiences. Through our experiences and those of the creators alongside other educators, we have found that youth respond well and are more engaged hearing real stories from young people like themselves

We focused and reflected on what it means to take action. We considered how human rights are relevant to youth, both as a basis / justification for taking action and for understanding that human rights as they are written and upheld are a result of taking action. Together we gained a
better understanding of the relationship between human rights and taking action.
Check back next week to learn more about one of our volunteers, Julia and her experience so far.
