Model International Criminal Court (MICC) is a simulation of the proceedings by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and is designed for high/secondary school and university students across the globe who hold a keen interest in human rights. The ICC is a highly advanced mechanism dedicated to upholding human rights and regulating rules pertaining to warfare. MICC is an educational initiative that aims to share the fundamental principles of the ICC. Since 2005, the Kreisau-Initiative e.V., in collaboration with its Polish counterpart Fundacja Krzyżowa dla Porozumienia Europejskiego (Foundation Krzyżowa for Mutual Understanding in Europe) has organised MICC, with the primary objective to strengthen Human Rights Education and to inspire students to delve into the realms of human rights and humanitarian law.
During MICC, participants engage in a series of sessions focusing on training modules, discussions, and workshops that culminate in a simulated ICC process, involving pre-trial preparation, the trial itself, and the subsequent verdict. By gathering students from across the world, MICC actively promotes intercultural dialogue and fosters mutual understanding among participants.
Keep an eye out on the next post in this series to learn more about one of our volunteers experience in MICC in March this year!
